Steve’s Birthday Weekend

Fun on Saltspring Island

Steven’s Uncle David’s son, Sequioa, shows how to flip out!

Then Steve tries:

Ucluelet – Fun’s Over

End of the vacation.

We departed Ucluelet around 10:00am, hoping to make the 12:30 ferry (again?).  But this was a Wednesday, so we were certain there wouldn’t be a huge amount of traffic.  (They called this “foreshadowing” in my writer’s workshop.)

So once again it was a pleasant trip in the Crossfire.  Now the Crossfire has [...]

Ucluelet – Day 2

During our visit to Ucluelet we stayed in this cabin.

You can see from the empty lot that this is the off season.

These are these are the whale watching boats.  We were scheduled to go out on the bigger Dixie IV.

But due to weather, the boat was not able to leave the harbor.

Ucluelet – Day 1

We departed at 11:50 from our house to catch the 12:30 ferry to Vancouver Island, and you may have guessed that, being a Sunday, we didn’t get on the 12:30 sailing.  We were actually about 6 cars from making it on.  In any case, we passed the time waiting for the next ferry by visiting [...]

Quebec City – The French Connection

Today was the last day of the trip for us.  When we woke up we packed up our suitcases and loaded them into the car and went exploring once again.  By the way the dinner from last night was exceptional!  We noticed that many of the restaurants use dairy products from Chilliwack!  We saw [...]

Quebec City

We walked up to “Old Quebec” where all the buildings are totally vintage and it has the real feel of an old european city.  There were a lot of touristy chachki shops and cobblestone [...]

East Coast Observations

It has been no problem that we do not speak French at any of the places we have been, although its fun to try speaking french and getting the “there, there, isn’t that sweet that you tried” look from people who then say “I speak the English, ‘ow can I ‘elp you?”

The service industry [...]

The Atlantic Coast

It was a lazy day for us today. We slept in until about 10:00am local time and didn’t get on the road until noon. We travelled about 45 minutes to Bathurst, NB where we had an “Acadian Breakfast” at the “Dixie Lee” which seems to be a very common chain. The New Brunswickians are [...]

PEI Tour Bus

This morning we woke and were served a delicious breakfast by our hosts at the Evening Primrose.  Then we were off to explore the island.

We started by renting a couple of bicycles in Charlottetown and rode around the city checking out all the hot spots.  Charlottetown has a nice boardwalk that runs [...]
